The New York Times April 14,1958, P. 11 Cuban Crew Defects With 12 in Airliner MIAMI, Fla., April 13 (UP)- The three-man crew of a Cuban airliner stole their own plane today and flew it here with twelve passengers. The DC-3 was the second plane "lost" by the airline, Cubana de Aviacion, in five days. On April 9, a Cubana de Aviacion plane was flown to Merida, Mexico, with thirteen passengers aboard. Both planes had been scheduled to fly from Havana to Santa Clara, in Central Cuba. Capt. Carlos Villamar of Havana, pilot of the plane, that came here today said: "The Cuban Government is requiring civil pilots to fly over dangerous territory. I was fired on April 1 near Baracoa. Once is enough for me. I'm not going to continue risking my life and the lives of my passengers." The passengers were being flown back to Cuba. Also, the Cubana plane in Mexico was returned to Havana today.
