Cuban fails Paralympic test

A disabled Cuban athlete is to be stripped of his gold medal at the Paralympic Games in Athens after failing a drugs test.

Sergio Arturo Perez tested positive for the banned steroid prednisolone after winning in the men's judo category.

He will not face any other sanction because prednisolone is not considered performance-enhancing for judo.

He is the third athlete found to have taken a banned substance at the Paralympics this year.

Two weightlifters from Azerbaijan have already been excluded for life from the competition after failing drugs tests.

Paralympics athletes are subject to the same anti-doping controls as their Olympic counterparts and more than 400 tests have been carried out so far during the Athens Games.
