LIMA, Peru -- Police captured a military leader of the ultra-left Shining Path guerrilla movement over the weekend, officials reported.

Police said that Alexis Canote Fajardo, 32, has led dynamite attacks against the Chinese, Costa Rican and Chilean embassies, as well as police stations in poor neighborhoods.

Canote, known by his Shining Path name ``Comrade Bernabe,'' is also accused of belonging to hit squads that have killed six police officers.

Police, who had been looking for Canote for six years, captured him in a downtown Lima household.
