Ortega Invokes Immunity in Sexual Abuse Case

          By REUTERS

MANAGUA, Nicaragua -- Former President Daniel Ortega
Saavedra invoked parliamentary immunity Monday against
charges of sexual abuse filed by his stepdaughter, Zoilamérica Narvaez,
          now 30.

He was accompanied to criminal court by his wife, Rosario Murillo, for a
10-minute meeting at which he gave Judge Martha Quezada documents
that showed his membership in the National Assembly, the ground for his
          immunity.

He called the charges a plot to undermine him and the Sandinista Front,
          which he leads.
