Dump Ortega, brother urges

MANAGUA -- (EFE) -- Former military chief and Sandinista party stalwart Humberto Ortega said Tuesday that the party should dump his brother Daniel as leader after three straight presidential defeats.

After Daniel Ortega's Nov. 4 loss to Enrique Bolaños, by 14 percentage points, his brother says the Sandinistas must abandon him, and their Marxist roots. ``The most immediate issue for [the party] now is . . . to encourage the transition of a highly radical leftist party . . . toward a social-democratic type party,'' Humberto said.
