Ex-Toledoan Faces Citizenship Loss

Ruling On Service In Cuba Army Due

WASHINGTON, Sept. 4 (AP)—Any Americans who have remained with Cuba’s revolutionary armed forces since Jan. 2, 1959, are subject to loss of their U.S. citizenship, State Department sources said today.

The sources noted, however, that the decision will be made on the facts in individual cases.

The comment came after Rep. Francis E. Walter (D., Pa.), chairman of the House Committee on Un – American Activities, said yesterday he was informed by the department that “a certificate of loss of United States citizenship by William Morgan will be issued.”

Mr. Walter said he had made an inquiry to the department after learning that Mr. Morgan—a former resident of Toledo—was serving as a major in the Cuban army.

For the Americans who served with Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, a critical factor is whether or not they remained with those forces after Jan. 2, 1959, when the units became Cuban government forces.
