Adventurer Divorced By Toledo Wife

Officer In Rebel Forces Reported Married In Cuba

William A. Morgan the Toledo adventurer who now is a leader of the victorious rebel forces in Cuba, was divorced by his wife here last August, it was revealed today by his mother, Mrs. A. W. Morgan, 2909 Collingwood Blvd.

An Associated Press dispatch from Havana yesterday quoted Mr. Morgan, who was made a major in the insurgent forces, as saying that he had married a Cuban woman last month and looked forward to spending the rest of his days with this “good and beautiful wife.”

On Monday, The Blade was informed by the major’s mother that he had a wife, Ellen Theresa, and two small children here in Toledo.

Today, the mother said her son’s wife had obtained a divorce on grounds of desertion last August, but that the family still hoped for a reconciliation.

Neither the major’s mother nor his former wife here had known of his remarriage until it was mentioned in the Havana dispatch, the older Mrs. Morgan said.

She described herself as “staggering from the shock” of the news, and still unwilling to believe it.

“I want to hear it from Bill,” she said

Records of the domestic relations division of Common Pleas Court showed that the major’s former wife filed for divorce on March 12 of last year and obtained the uncontested decree on Aug. 13. The couple had been married in Florida in 1954.
