TV shoot damages Inca ruin

LIMA, Peru -- (AP) -- A massive crane being used to help film a beer commercial
toppled, damaging a granite sundial in the famed Inca ruins of Machu Picchu,
 officials said Monday.

An edge the length of a ballpoint pen was chipped off the Intihuatana, or ``hitching
post for the sun,'' Friday when the 1,000-pound crane fell.

The Intihuatana is considered the most important shrine in Machu Picchu.

The commercial was being shot by the U.S. firm J. Walter Thompson for
Cervesur, a subsidiary of Peru's largest beer company Backus & Johnston.
