Border agents nab 4 illegal migrants convicted of sex charges

Four illegal immigrants convicted of sexually related charges were arrested sneaking across the border during the weekend, according to a Border Patrol news release.

Jorge Gonzalez Lopez was caught Friday morning about six miles east of Douglas. When agents ran his fingerprints they found the 27-year-old Mexican national was convicted of child molestation is Washington in 2003, according to the agency.

An hour later, agents in Naco caught Mario Sanchez Gonzalez about seven miles east of town. The same fingerprint database revealed the 37-year-old Mexican was convicted of sexual assault in 1995, according to the release.

Agents in Naco caught another sex offender, Salvador Cayatano Catalon, about 12 miles west of Naco Saturday, according to Border Patrol.

The 31-year-old Mexican was convicted of sexual assault on a child in Nebraska in 1995, the fingerprint database revealed.

And Sunday, agents in Nogales arrested Ricardo Menilla Lopez, a 22-year-old Mexican convicted of sexual battery in California in 2003, according to the agency. Menilla also had an outstanding warrant in California for drug related charges.

All four men are in federal custody, pending charges of re-entry of an aggravated felon, the news release states.

Since October, 9,051 illegal immigrants with criminal records, 137 sex-related, have been arrested in the Tucson sector, according to Border Patrol statistics.
