Cuban delegate KOs rights activist

GENEVA, Switzerland, April 16 (UPI) -- A U.N. Human Rights Commission meeting in Geneva ended with a Cuban delegate knocking out a rights activist with a single punch, the Washington Times reported.

The commission voted 22-21 in favor of a resolution offered by Honduras demanding that Cuba permit democratic reforms. It specifically censured Cuba for arresting 75 dissidents lastyear, condemning many to sentences of 25 years and longer. There were 10 abstentions.

As the results were being posted, a shouting match broke out between a Cuban delegate and rights advocates.

Witnesses said another activist, Frank Calzon, just happened to be walking by when he was punched once, and fell to the ground unconscious.

Kevin Moley, the U.S. ambassador in Geneva, said in an interview he had witnessed the assault and that he intends to press charges.
