Wounded Haitian flies to Havana

PORT-AU-PRINCE -- (EFE) -- Marie Claude Preval Calvin, sister and private
secretary of Haitian President Rene Preval, was flown to Cuba on Friday for
medical treatment after being shot in the back on Tuesday in an attack in which her
             driver was killed.

She was flown to Havana after undergoing surgery at the University Hospital in
Port-au-Prince. According to a hospital spokesman, she was in fair condition.

A friend of the Prevals said her trip to Cuba was seen as a change that would help
her recover. She was accompanied by several doctors on the flight.

Haitian police are holding 20 people for questioning in connection with the attack.
