 Guerrilla leader arrested

Bogota, Aug 24 (EFE),- The second in command of the dissolved Popular
Liberation Army (EPL) guerrilla organization, Wilfredo Martinez Giraldo, was
arrested Tuesday while visiting a secret factory for making uniforms in
Bucamaranga, army sources reported in Bogota.

Three more rebels, including a woman, were arrested in the same army operation.
Military spokesmen said that Martinez, also nicknamed Beto, was second in
 command in the EPL.

The group operated in a vast region of the northeastern section of the country and
was one of the most active in the group, which broke off with the EPL when the
latter signed a peace accord with the government eight years ago.

The sources said that, during the operation, the army seized 170 army and police
uniforms, some not quite finished and others ready for distribution, along with
several sewing machines, three cellular phones and 256 dollars.

Three other rebels were taken into custody. Apparently, they were part of the
urban guerrillas operating in Bucamaranga. EFE
