Guatemala Bus Crash Kills 16

GUATEMALA CITY (AP) — A passenger bus slammed head-on into a semi truck early Friday in eastern Guatemala, killing 16 people,
 emergency officials said.

It appeared the bus was in the opposite lane passing a car when it hit the tractor-trailer head on, officials said. The accident occurred
on a highway 105 miles from Guatemala City, the capital.

Of the 22 people traveling in the bus, 14 were declared dead at the scene and two more died at a hospital, emergency official Amilcar
Sanchez said. An 8-year-old boy and two women were among those killed, he said. The rest of the victims were men.

Among the passengers on the bus were several Indians traveling from Camotan to the city of Chiquimula, where they planned to sell
their agricultural goods at a market.
