Rebel Unity Pressed

Castro Reported Agreeing to a Joint Opposition Meeting

The chief representative abroad for Cuba’s insurgent leader Fidel Castro said last night that Señor Castro has approved a meeting of opposition groups to form a unified organization in the fight against the regime of President Fulgencio Batista.
Dr. Mario Llerena, head of the Committee in the Exile of the 26th of July Movement, said that Señor Castro had replied favorably to an invitation to the meeting, which is expected to include civilian, military and labor groups opposed to the Batista regime. The date and the site of the meeting will be announced later, Dr. Llerena said.
Señor Castro broke last December with other opposition groups, whose leaders met in Miami, when they came out against his candidacy for Provisional President of Cuba, Dr. Manuel Urrutia.
