Sporadic Fighting in Cuba Continues

Special to The New York Times.

HAVANA, Oct. 7--Sporadic fighting between Government forces and rebels continues throughout the eastern provinces of Oriente, Camaguey and Las Villas, according to reports that filter through the thick curtain of censorship maintained by the Cuban Government.

Travelers reported skirmishes at Caney in Oriente last Saturday, and between Caney and Santiago de Cuba.  Encounters were also reported near Padre and Guantanamo in that province.  The rebels report that an army pursuit plane was shot down in the San Luis Valley and that the plane crashed and burned.

In Camaguey Province the sabotage of communications has apparently increased.  The railways are the particular target of the rebels and it is reported that the Consolidated Railways of Cuba, which operates between Camaguey and the eastern end of the island, has been forced to lay off several thousand men because of the stoppage of train service over a large area.

Army headquarters said yesterday that troops had battled rebels near Ciego de Avilla, killing seven.  Other sources reported an encounter close to the Macareno sugar mill near the south coast of Camaguey Province.
