Special to The New York Times

HAVANA, Jan. 7—Two rebels were killed when a group of thirty to forty attacked a guard post at Los Palmas, Oriente Province, according to a statement issued today by army headquarters here.

The post repelled the attack and troops pursued the rebels, who fled back into the mountains, according to the report. Four rifles, a shotgun, ammunition and other equipment, as well as a quantity of subversive propaganda, were abandoned by the rebels, headquarters said.

Dos Palmas is about thirty miles northwest of Santiago de Cuba in the foothills of the Sierra Maestra, stronghold of Fidel Castro and his insurgents.
