Cuban Bandit Executed

Put to Death for Killing of Rural Guard Chief in Battle

            HAVANA, May 8. – The execution of José Costiello Fuentes, convicted by a court-martial of having killed Lieutenant Juan Alvarez, chief of rural guards, in a battle with a group of bandits of which Costiello was a member, took place at 6 o’clock this morning at the General Mondagudo military post, four miles outside the city of Santa Clara.

            Costiello affirmed his innocence to the last.  He was the second civilian to die before a firing squad in the last thirty days.
