Arms Cache and 3 Cubans Seized by Raiders in Jersey

Special to The New York Times

UNION CITY, N.J., Dec 11-Treasury agents seized a hand grenade, a machine gun, and ammunition for the machine gun at noon today during a raid on an apartment occupied by three Cuban exiles.

The raid occurred moments before a rocket exploded in the East River near the United Nations headquarters, where the Cuban leader, Ernesto Che Guevara, was addressing the General Assembly. There was no immediate evidence to indicate that the arms cache found here was in any way connected with the explosion.

Those arrested in the apartment at 149 49th Street here were Omar Junco, 30 years old; Rafael Cruz, 19, and Carlos Gomez, 22.

The police said the three men were members of a Cuban exile group that vainly sought permission from the Justice Department last year to drill in uniform within the city limits.
