3 Arrested in Plot To Invade Cuba

Three men, indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly conspiring to take part in a military expedition against Cuba, were arrested Tuesday and held under $2,500 bond each pending a hearing April 14.

Roberto del Castillo, 25, Jose Gregorio Santos Fernandez, 19, and Hugo Gascon Gongora, 20, had been named in an indictment handed down by a federal grand jury in Miami investigating the Oct. 25 seizure by Bahamian officials of a boat and armed men off Greater Inagua Island.

Castillo, Fernandez and Gongora were among seven occupants aboard the craft at the time, U.S. Customs officials said.

The craft had been under surveillance and was stopped as it was leaving the Bahamas heading for Cuba, Customs officials said.
