Cuban Group takes credit for bombings

An anti-Castro organization calling itself the Cuban Secret Government today claimed credit for bombings in Miami, New York and Montreal early yesterday.

The Miami blast damaged the office of VA-Cuba Forwarding Co. Inc., 1001 SW 1st St., which mails packages from exiles here to relatives in Cuba.

VA-Cuba's New York office and a travel agency in Queens also were bombed, at about the same time as the Miami blast.

In Montreal, bombs damaged a building in which a mailing company associated with VA-Cuba is a tenant.

There were no injuries, but the anti-Castro group warned of further attacks against persons and firms who do business with Cuba.

"To do business with the Communist tyranny that oppresses Cuba means to recognize them as the legitimate government," a letter received at the Associated Press Washington bureau said.

It said there should be "no more packages for Cuba" except for medicines.

The letter added: "If the betraying business continues, our attacks will be felt by the publications that advertise the agencies dedicated to this unpatriotic activities [sic]."

"Also we will then attack the persons that work in this places [sic], as well as the owners." An English translation accompanied the Spanish text of the letter.
