Brigade’s Request for Flag Is Refused

The Kennedy Library has rejected a request by the Bay of Pigs Veterans Association to return the brigade flag presented to the late President John F. Kennedy by the exile group 12 years ago.  The brigade president said Saturday the association will go to court to get the flag back.
"The association has received a response from the Kennedy Library that their flag is now in the possession of the United States government and cannot be returned,” Juan Perez-Franco said.  “We feel President Kennedy’s promise (to return the flag in a free Havana) cannot or will not be kept.  Perhaps if the President of the United States cannot return our flag in a free Havana, then we will have to take it to Cuba ourselves.”
