About the Program

Antonio Rafael de la Cova recounts Fidel Castro's failed attack on the Cuban Army on July 26, 1953.  The author relays that Raul and Fidel Castro led a party of 160 people on assaults of two Cuban army posts.  Quikly turned back by the army and defeated the author contends that Fidel Castro used the skirmish for his own propaganda purposes.  Mr. de la Cova also asserts that the events that conspired on July 26 put in motion Castro's ascension to power.  Rafael de la Cova delivers his talk at Books & Books bookstore in Coral Gables, Florida.

About the Author
Antonio Rafael de la Cova, a native of Havana, is a Latin studies professsor at Indiana University, Bloomington. He is the author of "Cuban Confederate Colonel: The Life of Ambrosio Jose Gonzales."
